New Beginnings Jamal Place Shelter & Outreach is a Wichita-based nonprofit dedicated to bringing hope, healing, and support to individuals and families affected by grief, mental health struggles, and community violence. Founded by Landon R. Hurd in memory of his late son, Jamal R. Hurd, the organization is rooted in compassion, restoration, and the belief that even in life’s darkest moments, another day is coming. We are committed to walking with people through difficult times and empowering them to rebuild their lives with confidence and dignity.
Our Mission
To provide safe, supportive environments and compassionate services that help individuals overcome grief, trauma, and crisis situations. We aim to restore hope, encourage emotional healing, and promote personal growth through programs that address mental health, community violence recovery, and grief support. Our goal is to help people find strength after loss, purpose after pain, and hope after hardship.
Vision
We envision a community where no one struggles alone—where healing is accessible, support is available, and every person has a chance for a new beginning. Our long-term vision includes the establishment of Jamal Place Shelter, a safe haven for individuals emerging from violent or traumatic experiences, including domestic violence and emotional crisis.
